About DakshinaChitra Art Gallery
Madras Craft Foundation opened the DakshinaChitra Art Gallery in January 2005, with the
objective of bringing contemporary art exhibitions to the public. With the opening of the Art Gallery
Madras Craft Foundation has taken one more step on its journey to bridge the past with the future and
its goal to promote and encourage contemporary art and design.
DakshinaChitra is a center for the living traditions of art, folk performing arts, craft and
architecture of India with an emphasis on the traditions of South India. A project of the Madras Craft
Foundation (MCF), a non-profit organisation. DakshinaChitra opened to the public in December 1996.
The center occupies ten undulating acres overlooking the Bay of Bengal, at Muttukadu, twenty five
kilometers south of Chennai, on the East Coast Road to Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu.
The exhibition of A. Balasubramaniam has been co-ordinated & curated by Apparao Galleries
